Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters of Mary Maloney,
As Many of you are aware, our daughter Mary suffered a trampoline accident in August of 2020 and was paralyzed from the waist down. Mary is a 14-year-old girl who loves to run, dance, sing, play volleyball, love her Yellow Lab Ava, and spend time with her friends and family. Mary has been in various hospitals and specialty facilities since the accident occurred, working tirelessly to regain her ability to walk.
When the accident occurred last Fall, Mary was taken to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, and once stabilized she transitioned to the Children's Hospital-Mario Lemieux Rehab center to begin the journey of regaining her ability to walk. Once she completed the initial program there, she was moved to The Magee Hospital in Philadelphia. The Magee Hospital specializes in spinal injuries and helped provide the much-needed next step of advanced therapies and techniques to build strength and begin to re-build the brains connection to her legs. Along the way Mary has worked extremely hard and inspired everyone around her with her faith, attitude, and slow and steady progress. The never-ending pursuit of seeking new therapies then took Mary to Louisville Kentucky, where she embarked on the next level of treatment and rehabilitation at the Frazier Hospital Spinal Care facility. Each day over these past months we were humbled daily, at the love and level of professional care that Mary has received along her journey. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to all the care givers, teachers at Blessed Seelos Academy, and friends that have supported this first phase of Mary’s recovery, you are all amazing.
Mary is about to move on to the next “step” in her journey. We are hoping and planning to bring Mary back to Pittsburgh around March 19th, which will mark almost 8 months since the injury occurred. Mary is excited to be coming home to see her friends and return to school, she has been able to attend via cyber and will be graduating 8th grade in June. While the amount of progress has been amazing, there is much more work to do and progress to be made. Our family is in the process of preparing for accommodating Mary’s needs at home, for transportation, and additional rehabilitation therapies to continue her progress.
This past year has been filled with so many challenges, but the one constant is Mary’s unwavering faith that she will walk again. We are so very thankful for the incredible love, support, and prayers that you have all sent our way, and we thank God for each and every one of you. The energy you shower on our family fuels Mary’s spirit and determination every single day. Your support and thoughtfulness are greatly appreciated, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Please keep the prayers coming.
